CRDC: School Climate and Safety: Law Enforcement
Every other year, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) conducts the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) for data on key education and civil rights issues in our nation's public schools. This required collection helps illustrate student access to opportunities and aspects of school climate. The CRDC School Climate and Safety: Law Enforcement examines aspects of school climate by providing information about school safety. Data displayed in this section show the rate of school-related arrests, referrals to law enforcement, and incidents of violent offenses.
Note: All data presented in this section are reported by school districts to ED. The Oklahoma Department of Education (OSDE) does not collect or validate these data.

School-Related Arrests
Why do we measure this?
The number and percentage of school-related arrests provide information about school climate, safety, and exclusionary practices.
What was measured?
Data displayed here show the number of school-related arrests reported. CRDC defines school-related arrests as an arrest of a student for any activity conducted on school grounds, during off-campus school activities (in-person or virtual), while taking school transportation or due to a referral by any school official. All school-related arrests are considered referrals to law enforcement. Source- CRDC Definitions

Referrals to Law Enforcement
Why do we measure this?
The number and percentage of referrals to law enforcement provide information about school climate, safety, and exclusionary practices.
What was measured?
Data displayed here show the number of referrals made to law-enforcement. CRDC defines referral to law-enforcement as an action by which a student is reported to any law enforcement agency or official, including a school police unit, for an incident that occurs on school grounds, during school-related events (in-person or virtual), or while taking school transportation, regardless of whether official action is taken. Citations, tickets, court referrals, and school-related arrests are considered referrals to law enforcement. Source- CRDC Definitions.

Incidents of Violent Offenses
Data displayed in the table show the number of incidents of violent offenses by category. CRDC defines violent offenses as a specific criminal act involving one or more victims and offenders. For example, if two students are robbed without a weapon, at the same time and place, this is classified as two robbery victimizations but only one robbery without a weapon incident.
